Founded by Baden Powell and under the editorship of Percy W. Everett, 'The Scout' was a boys' paper with a boys' scouting theme.

The first issue dated 19th April 1908 included the story 'How I Started Scouting' by Baden Powell and other stories in the first issue were 'The Phantom Battleship', 'Why Scouts must Keep Fit', 'Things All Scouts Should Know', 'A Fortnight in General Baden-Powell's Camp', '£500 Reward', 'Robbing the Escort', 'The Secrets Of Sucess - Little Talks For Ambitious Boys' and 'Legion Of Boy Scouts'.

The publication typically included short stories and scouting based adventures stories and information about camping.

After 3092 issues 'The Scout' lost its woggle and disappeared from the shop shelves on 24th September 1966.
