In the 1960s, publishers
Odhams obtained the rights to reprint Marvel superhero characters in their
five 'Power' comics which were 'Pow', 'Wham', 'Fantastic', 'Terrific' and
'Smash'. 'Pow' comic ran for 86 issues before joining Smash comic on
14th September 1968. 'Pow' comic was a mixture of British comic strips and
American reprints. The first issue of 'Pow' came with a 'Spider-Matic' gun
and ammo (see opposite). stories in the first issue were 'Spider'Man' (Spider-Man
1), 'Nick Fury - Agent of Shield' (Strange Tales 35), 'The Python' (Borrel),
'Jack Magic', 'Dolls of St. Dominics', 'The Group' (Baxendale) and
'Dare-a-Day Davy' (Ken Reid). |
